The Night Sky Over Ladakh is Like Nowhere Else on Earth
At an altitude of over 3,500 metres, with dry mountain air and almost zero light pollution, Ladakh offers some of the clearest night skies you will ever witness. On a cloudless night at Nature Palace Farmstay, you can see thousands of stars with the naked eye, the Milky Way stretches across the sky like a glowing river, and shooting stars are a regular occurrence.
Why Nature Palace Farmstay is Ideal for Stargazing
Our farmstay is located in Chuchot Shama village, just 25 minutes from Leh town, along the banks of an Indus River distributary. This location puts us well away from the lights of Leh, in a quiet valley surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. The combination of altitude, clean air, and no nearby towns makes our property one of the best spots in all of Ladakh for astrophotography and naked-eye stargazing.
What You Can See from Our Farmstay
The Milky Way galaxy, visible as a broad band of light across the sky from June to September
Shooting stars and meteor showers, including the famous Perseid meteor shower in August
Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and Venus visible to the naked eye on most clear nights
Constellations including Orion, Scorpius, Cassiopeia and more
Best Time for Stargazing in Ladakh
The best stargazing in Ladakh happens between May and September, when skies are clear and the temperatures at night are bearable. New moon nights offer the darkest skies and the most spectacular views.
